
Doctors worried about our children’s heavy backpacks. The spine damage. The muscle torque.
Now, I wonder if the backpacks moms carried were the bigger problem.
Breakfast bars. Almonds. Juice boxes. Enough for our children and their friends.
Band-aids. A deck of cards. A limp balloon to inflate for a game of toss.
Maybe we’d have bred more resilience into our millennials if we screamed more. Like our mothers. “Hungry? I’ll give you hungry!” and “Damn it, find something to do!”
And not carried the full weight of their hunger and boredom.
